The Leadership Academy

In all facets Jesus Christ is the believer's model of a life that glorifies God the Father.  In no area is that more evident than in Christ's leadership, one that can best be summerized by the term servant leadership.  While this almost seems like a contradiction in terms, Christ's life demonstrates that selfless service to others is the essence of true leadership.  As a result, any intentional study of leadership (such as The Leadership Academy) must have at its center a picture of Christ and must have as its goal the imitation of Christ.

The apostle Paul (himself a great example of leadership devoted to the service of others) challenged us as followers of Christ that, “Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 2:5 NIV) In the verses that follow he describes Christ’s dramatic journey shaped by His service. Christ begins in vs. 6 in the highest of places – equality with God the Father. However, by the end of vs. 8 He has not only humbled Himself by being made in human likeness, but has willingly surrendered His life to the most humiliating form of death, crucifixion. All of this done on behalf of others – on behalf of us.
Behind such humility lies one attitude of Christ’s that demands our imitation. Jesus trusted His Heavenly Father completely. By doing so He accomplished the work He was sent to accomplish. And in that same way, we as aspiring leaders will only discover the true essence of our own unique leadership by placing our absolute trust in the Father. Only then will we discover the leaders we were created to be and the purpose for which we were called.
As you consider participating in The Master’s School Leadership Academy, do so with the knowledge that you are embarking on a lifelong journey. As you learn about and practice elements of leadership, Christ must be your focus and imitating Him your goal. When you do that you will indeed “shine like stars” as Paul says later in Philippians 2:15 and your leadership will bring honor and glory to God, just as Christ did!
