Event Recap: We had a good trip to Cheshire today, even though we lost 2-5. I was really proud of our senior captains today, Emi and Kaitlyn. This was the first match where Emi played a "real" S1, meaning someone that plays year round tennis as their primary sport. In fact, this girl was actually raised on clay courts in Spain! So Emi lost 1-8 and was understandably upset. But after processing a few things, Emi resumed her spot on the bleachers with some of the girls and cheered on the remaining matches. That's a great example of how a captain should act. As for Kaitlyn, she did it with her racquet today, winning 8-4 against a player that had some anger management issues. Kaitlyn ignored the tirade, and just played her game. Another great example by our co-captain.
Well done also by Hannah, getting our second win, also 8-4, Hannah's serve was great today, and consistent, and both of Cheshire's coaches remarked how strong she looked. And they also both said, "she should play doubles." I wish we could spare her for doubles.
Kristin came up short at D4, dropping a 3-8 decision. But this match was one of the longest of the day, which is evidence of how long the rallies were. Kristin felt much better about her match than the last one, and rightly so!
We got schooled at doubles. The Cheshire team had plenty of experienced players, and we had Sara. Tennis is not an easy game, so our new girls will have to take a few on the chin. Sara teamed with Lydia today, and they lost 0-8. Also dropping an 0-8 decision were Marissa and Emma. Finally, breaking the cycle were Veronica and Rebecca, losing 1-8. Despite the scores, we're seeing much better play from all our doubles players. |
