Event Recap: "The skies were angry that day, as eight gladiators from West Simsbury made the perilous journey to Waterbury."
We lost to Chase 2-5 yesterday, the same score from our first match. Same conditions, too, cold and a little windy. And almost all the player matchups were with the same opponents. But enough about the team, let's talk about Hannah Bryant. Last time we played, she let the match slip away and lost something like 10-4. I thought Hannah was the stronger player that day, but it didn't play out that way. Well, yesterday, the real Hannah showed up, and she smoked the same girl 8-0! Hannah was on the far side of the courts, so not many of us knew how her match was progressing, we could see they were having nice rallies but that was about it. So when they came off the court we had no idea how dominant Hannah had been, but she was like the cucumber, "me? I won, 8-0, no big deal." Great job Hannah!
At S1, Emi put a scare into Chase's top player, before falling 9-7. Emi has much more match experience under her belt now, then she did for our first match with Chase, and it showed. She fought hard and she fought well. At S2, Kaitlyn lost 8-5, she was also on the far court so it was a little hard to follow. Last time against Chase, her opponent was the only singles loss, so I'm sure she was looking forward to some revenge, and she got it. We played Shelby for the first time at singles, on the S4 line, and although she said she was ready and looking forward to it, she didn't feel it went very well, and she dropped an 0-8 score. Her opponent was strong for S4, and it was mostly an opportunity to get Shelby some match experience. She's much more capable then she showed yesterday.
Sara H teamed with Kristin at D2, and lost 2-8. This one surprised me a bit, as I think we were equals with the opponents, and I thought it would play out closer. Being more aggressive would help, Look like a girl, play like a guy. At D3, Lydia and Marissa lost to a tough team 1-8. Again, they were on the far court, so it was a little hard to see the action. I know Lydia was very complimentary of Marissa's play, and I certainly saw some great rallies by Marissa, so that's something to build on. We finished the day with our D1 of Kaitlyn and Emi. They played a couple of doubles specialists, but our consistency and experience were a little too much for the opponents, and we won 8-6. |
