Welcome to Mrs. Hixson's Homepage
My name is Mari Beth Hixson. I am part of the Kindergarten team at The Master's School. I Love Kindergarten!! I graduated from Southern CT State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Early Childhood Education. Upon leaving SCSU, I took a position at the Montessori School of Greater Hartford. I taught there for three years. I loved teaching the young child! The wonder and excitement that they possess is infectious! I then took a position in the West Hartford Public School system initially as a teaching assistant and ultimately as a second grade teacher . I worked at Wolcott School in West Hartford for two years. While at Wolcott School, my family began to grow. I took a hiatus from teaching to raise my three children. I had always hoped and prayed that I would make my way back to teaching.
This journey has brought me to The Master's School! I am blessed to be teaching in such a wonderful school!
The goal of our Kindergarten curriculum is that each child would experience success, a love of learning, and enthusiasm towards school. This setting will create a secure foundation for a lifetime of learning. The social, emotional, cognitive, physical, and creative growth of each child is encouraged through child-initiated and teacher-directed activities. Our Kindergarten utilizes "learning centers" as a way of inquiry and discovery in all subject areas. A strong sense of community is encouraged and nurtured creating an environment where each child feels secure and competent. This environment is key to the learning process which allows risk-taking, independent thinking, and builds on prior knowledge. The classrooms adult/child ratio facilitates quality time with each child, which allows a personal relationship and individual learning styles to develop and grow.
Each child has God given gifts and talents that deserve to be discovered, encouraged, and esteemed. I look forward to partnering with you this school year!
