Welcome to Second Grade at The Master's School!

My name is Linda Suydam and I am the second grade teacher at The Master's School. I am a certified teacher with a Master's degree from the University of Hartford and have been teaching second grade at The Master's School for 23 years.
I would like to tell you a little about what your child will experience during the year in my classroom. Second grade is a year of growing, stretching and hands-on exploring. It is a year of becoming more confident of yourself as a reader, writer, mathematician and as an explorer of the world God has created for us.
During our Bible times we will learn of the many people who trusted God during difficult times, and saw Him keep His promises to them.
We will step back in time to experience what life was like for early Native Americans. Beyond our classroom studies we will travel to Indian Rock to experience what it was like to live in a Native American's home and see how they lived.
We will also study what it was like to live in a castle during the Middle Ages. We will dress in clothes of the time period, convert our classroom into a Great Hall and have a Medieval Feast!
China will be the destination for our multicultural study. We will learn to write our names in Chinese, what life is like for a child in China, and cook and eat many of the special foods from this far away land. We will also learn about the life of Gladys Alyward, a missionary who helped many orphaned children in a war torn land.
I invite you and your child to join us on our adventure of learning this year!
