"The most exciting phrase to hear in science, the one that heralds the most discoveries, is not "Eureka!" (I found it!) but "That's funny..." ~Isaac Asimov
Second Grade ISaT Curriculum
The second grade ISaT program provides students an opportunity to think and work like scientists. Second grade students develop skills in discovery, scientific exploration, and observation and questioning of the world around them. Students address topics in the four science disciplines in various ways, including:
- Systems in Balance
o Students study the major body systems and how they work cooperatively in our lives.
o The Scientific Inquiry system is developed as students work in small groups to complete investigations and experiments.
o Study moves to habitats and environments, studying how organisms and objects come together to form a balanced system in nature.
- Around the World
o Study encompasses research of the major biomes on Earth. Students are introduced to each biome and utilize research and synthesis skills to present their findings on the plants and animals in the respective biome.
o Weather and landforms are explored in each of the biomes
o Adaptations of different biotic factors made in order to survive in each biome are also studied.
- WeDo
o Elementary engineering skills are developed in this new LEGO robotics program.
o Students learn about simple and complex machines, engineering concepts, transfer of energy, and simple programming.
Second grade students learn that the world reaches beyond their front door and the classroom!
