Advanced Technology Enchancements in Middle & Upper School Classrooms

We will be introducing Promethean boards in select Middle and Upper School classrooms this fall! A Promethean board is an interactive, touch-sensitive whiteboard which allows users to engage with the displayed content through a variety of tools and software. Promethean boards promote interactive learning at all grade levels and facilitating creative, flexible lesson instruction for educators.

TMS Middle School Social Studies teacher Landa Leavy was able to “test drive” a Promethean board in her classroom this past spring. Leavy raved about the board, saying, “An interactive board allows my computer screen to be displayed in the classroom on a large touch screen TV. Students can use the “pen” with which to write, or their finger! With the Promethean board, more than one student can simultaneously participate on any lesson at the board. The interactive board is a great way to incorporate the different learning styles in a classroom.

One of the most exciting things about an interactive board, is seeing the students' faces as they become involved in the lesson. Getting students out of their seats and away from pencil and paper is a dynamic way to increase student retention and energize the classroom. Students can even teach each other! Students are able to present their own PowerPoint presentations, Glogster presentations, student-created videos and much more. Interactive “hands on” games are a hit with students, as are interactive map review sessions. One of my favorite aspects is the whiteboard component which allows students to create their own lessons, illustrations or even a game of vocabulary Pictionary!”
