An energized and focused group of boys welcomed the visiting Falcons to the gym on Thursday. Masters was rearing to go right from the beginning, opening an 8-0 lead which turned into 12-2 and eventually 30-14 at halftime: nearly doubling Emmanuel's score. ECA really had no answer for the pressure the Lions put on them on both sides of the ball: hounding Emmanuel's guards on defense and maintaining a high pace of play on offense.
Masters proved once again that when they are firing on all cylinders they are a hard team to beat:
Carmelo Walker (16 PTS) got into the lane at will despite seeing frequent double teams, leading the team in free throw attempts and collpasing Emmanuel's defense on posession after posession. Evan Ellrod (7 PTS) and Isaac Earnest (9 PTS) sliced their way through the zone again and again, working a crafty two man game to find one another open shots in the paint and keeping the offense flowing. Nathaniel Duval (6 PTS 8 REB) was constantly effective playing inside: keeping plays alive with second chance points and tapping out rebounds regularly. Cam Peters (6 PTS, 2-4 3FG) proved that sometimes the easiest way to break a zone is to just shoot over it. Cam's quick 6 points in the third quarter really blew the game open for Masters. Ben Frey (7 PTS) led with energy and competetiveness throughout the entire game, pushing the pace and staying dialed in on defense until his last minutes.
And Bode Oler (2 PTS), Liam Randolph (3 PTS), Luna Decker (2 PTS), Landon Steltzer (2 PTS), and JD Beebe (2 PTS) all showed the Lion's depth as they added useful minutes to Masters' guard rotation and brought extra energy to the court in each of their minutes off the bench. Michael Baah-Minkah (2 REB), Noah Roberts (1 REB, 1 AST), and Reagan Luchina (3 REB) all also found a way to contribute as the team worked as one to seal the wire-to-wire win.
