Freshman Shine Bright as Master's Fall to Avon

Man of the Match: Reagan Luchina & Nathaniel Duval
Freshman Reagan Luchina, Nathaniel Duval, and Michael Baah-Minkah stood out in Master's 2–0 loss against Avon Old Farms yesterday.

The teams had met for a tightly contested 1–1 draw earlier in the season, and the Lions had walked away from that result confident in their ability to maximize points in the second match. Unfortunately, whether because of exhaustion or other factors, the Lions did not find themselves able to bring a high enough competitive energy to the match.

It was a long time before scoring opened in the first half, but the hosts eventually found the back of the net after some particularly lackluster defense. A 1–0 result carried into halftime and, although the attacking trio of Michael, Will Frey, and Ben Frey gave everything they had, there simply wasn't enough support to convert on any of the build-up the Lions managed in the middle third.

Freshman defenders Nathaniel and Reagan stood out, though. AOF ran a high-energy counterattack offense, which Nathaniel and Reagan stimied time and time again. Owen Gray has continued to anchor the defensive line throughout the season and has begun to develop as an offensive weapon for the Lions as well. Over the last several games, Gray has contributed several dangerous set piece opportunities, including several well placed corner kicks in the match.

The season is drawing to a close quickly, and after a JV match on Friday, the Lions have three chances next week to finish the season strong. The boys will hope to see the return of several key players from injury and attack the final week at full strength.
