Masters Stumbles in Block Island Friendly

After an early morning, a long bus ride, and a ferry across the Sound, Masters arrived at Block Island's "Field of Dreams" for a 11am kickoff. Both sides dressed in red and white, and seemed evenly matched up as the game came underway. Block Island School ran well, with speedy strikers causing trouble for the Lions' back line from the opening whistle. Several point-blank saves by keeper Cam Peters kept the team afloat throughout.
But TMS created plenty of oppurtunities of their own, driven especially by the hustle of winger and Man of the Match Gage Arnold from the left side. The visitors had several near misses before Luke Boucher tapped in the game's first goal, his second of the season. The score held at 1-0 for most of the half, despite sleepy play from Master's center midfield, until the Hurricanes equalized in the 35th minute.
The Lions attempted to regroup at halftime, but delfated energy continued to plague the team. Block Island found the back of the net a second time in the 60th minute, surging through a vacant midfield and slipping it past the keeper in a nifty finish.
After that the hosts settled in and Masters failed to convert on any of their chances as the clock ticked down, leading to the a second loss of the season.
Despite hardworking outings from Reagan Luchina, Daniel Reynold, Gage Arnold, and Ben Frey, this was a comparatively poor effort for the boys. They'll hope to regain their footing on Tuesday with a visit to Olivet Academy before heading to Central for a rematch Thursday.
